Pivot Until Something Clicks

The other day on my blog, I mentioned that I had opened a business. And to be completely honest – I haven’t touched it. Not really. It’s just been sitting there for over a year. Maybe two. Life happened, ideas came and went, and, being multi-talented, well… it’s a blessing and a challenge.

Juggling multiple interests isn’t easy. I’m interested in a lot of things, and sometimes that makes it hard to focus on just one. But at the same time, being this way has allowed me to gain different skills in a variety of fields. I’ve become incredibly adaptable – one moment I’m handling business tasks, the next I’m doing maintenance, project management, design, or something artistic. In a typical setting, those would be separate departments or different teams entirely. For me, it’s just another Tuesday.

And I had no idea God designed me this way. I really didn’t. For the longest time, I didn’t think I had any talent or skills. I just didn’t see it. But once I started doing things – actually trying and creating and moving – I began to realize, wow, I can do things. I am good at things.

That’s when it clicked: it’s the doing that matters.

So many people are searching for their purpose, waiting for some kind of sign, but here’s the truth – I say this with love – if you’re not doing anything, you’re not going to find it. You have to get started. You have to move. You have to try. Because that’s how you find out what you’re really made of.

I said this the other day on Threads: every year as a creative, it feels like I’m rebranding. And it’s true. Who I am today is completely different from who I was five, six years ago. Even my physical appearance has changed – low key, I’m almost unrecognizable. My mindset, my process, my outlook – everything has evolved.

Now, about that business I started. I did the whole thing: formed the LLC, checked all the boxes, set it up legally and all that. But then I got stuck. I didn’t know how to take the next step. It started feeling too big, like it needed funding, resources, people – and I just froze. So I didn’t touch it. Instead, I poured myself into the creative side of things – writing, blogging, reflecting.

And today, I was reminded of something. I said: Pivot until something clicks.

That’s the title of this blog. Because for someone like me – who has no shortage of ideas – the real challenge is taking an idea and turning it into something real, something functional. And as I was thinking about this, I had a whole moment of, “Wait… how do I take someone like me, with all these skills, and turn that into something useful, valuable, sustainable?”

Then I remembered. Oh yeah, I literally already have a whole business.

And I had to laugh. Because sometimes we overlook what we’ve already built. We forget what we already have.

So I’m sharing this because that’s what this blog is about – bringing you along as I learn, grow, evolve, and figure things out. I don’t have all the answers, and that’s okay. That’s the fun part of the journey.

We pivot. We try. We move. And eventually… something clicks.

i read this book Freakonomics and there was a chapter devoted to the merits of quitting. your point about pivoting resonates with me because “quitting” has that negative connotation whereas it could also be framed as pivoting. good luck with your pursuits. I am 100% positive something will click. Mike
