Clearing the Mental Cache

Cache is a term commonly used in the tech industry to describe a collection of items of the same type stored in a hidden or inaccessible place. In the context of computers, a cache is an auxiliary memory that allows high-speed retrieval of data. However, the human brain also has similar functions to computers, and our mental cache can become bogged down with a build-up of thoughts and experiences.

I recently experienced mental exhaustion, which I later realized was due to unresolved issues and a constant intake of information. This stored information was causing me to be ineffective towards the things that truly mattered to me. Just like a computer, a full mental cache can cause performance issues. Clearing out old and outdated thoughts can make way for new thoughts that serve a positive purpose.

Caches can have drawbacks such as corruption, performance issues, and outdated information. Similarly, our mental cache can become cluttered with outdated or negative thoughts that can cause mental glitches or return misleading information. To keep our mental cache clear and moving quickly, we need to limit the amount of information we take in each day. This can involve setting limits on the time spent on social media and browsing the internet, unsubscribing from blogs or canceling magazine subscriptions that don’t contribute to our well-being, and only paying attention to well-regarded individuals with relevant credentials (Marelisa Fabrega).

In today’s information age, it can be challenging to break away from the constant bombardment of information. However, taking steps to limit the amount of information we take in can help keep our mental cache clear and functioning at optimal performance. By doing this, we can focus our mental energy on the things that truly matter to us and live a more fulfilling life.
