The Power of Focusing on the Good: Why It’s Worth the Fight

This right here… this shift in thinking? It’s real. It’s powerful. And it’s necessary. I’m not just talking about that surface-level positivity, either. I mean actually focusing on the good. Making a conscious decision to see it, speak it, share it, and celebrate it—especially when it’s easier to talk about everything going wrong.

Because let’s be honest: there’s no shortage of criticism in the world. You don’t have to look far to find something (or someone) to point fingers at. But the good? That takes effort. It takes intention. And I’ve noticed that when I make that shift—when I choose to highlight what’s working, what’s growing, what’s been redeemed—everything changes. Not just for me, but for the people around me.

Today was a reminder of that. I found myself checking in with my own mind like, “Am I okay? Can you hear me in there?”—because that default setting, that easy slide into negativity? It’s always waiting. It’s like a gravitational pull toward what’s wrong. But I stopped myself. I said no. I redirected. I focused on what was good.

And suddenly I remembered something from years ago—back when I had more time to observe. I remember watching how a single mistake could gather the whole room’s attention. Like one slip-up could dominate the narrative, overshadowing all the right things happening around it. And I would think to myself, Why does the bad get the microphone while the good sits in the back?

Still don’t have a full answer for that one. But what I do know is that we can flip the script.

We can be the ones who fight for the good. We can be the ones who say, “Yes, that happened—but look what else happened. Look what’s been healed. Look what’s been built. Look how far we’ve come.” Even when it seems small. Even when it feels like no one’s clapping for the good stuff. A good report still matters.

Lately, I’ve been more intentional about pointing out what’s working—in every area. “Good job on this. Thank you for that. Look how smooth that went. Remember when that used to be a problem? It’s not anymore.” It’s not about ignoring problems. It’s about making sure the good gets the recognition it deserves. Because what we celebrate, we repeat.

And let me just say—this isn’t just a life tip. This is deeply spiritual. The good news of the gospel is our foundation. But how can we carry the good news if we’re always focused on the bad? If we can’t even recognize the daily mercies and quiet victories in our own lives, how will we ever share the goodness of God?

God is good. Full stop. And every good and perfect gift comes from Him. So when we shift our focus to the good, we’re aligning ourselves with His heart. Gratitude is His will. Thanksgiving is His language. And the Bible doesn’t say fight the bad fight of faith—it says fight the good fight. That means there’s something worth defending. Something worth acknowledging. Something worth holding on to.

And yes—it’s a fight. Every day. Especially in this world of chaos and comparison and constant demands. But if we can start training ourselves to look for the good, to speak it out loud, to write it down, to say “thank You” for it… then we begin to experience more of it.

So today, I’m choosing to fight for the good. To speak life. To say thank You. To not let the little wins go unnoticed. Because there’s good happening all around me, and I refuse to let the noise drown it out.

And maybe, just maybe, if we keep doing this—if we keep shining light on the good—then that light gets brighter. And the good starts multiplying. And it gets easier to see. Easier to share. Easier to believe in.

Even if no one else is watching. Even if you’re the only one clapping. Focus on the good anyway.

Because the good is worth fighting for.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. – James 1:17 NKJV

We live in a world of deep forgetting..of who we are…hence it’s a test of choice..to choose dark or light.. hopefully more will choose the light of positivity.😀

And may you continue to spread more positivity … The world needs this now, more than ever… many are down with depression..often caused by the news that only focus on reporting ‘drama and negativity’.

This is such a wonderful reminder! As you said, focusing on the good doesn’t mean ignoring problems; it means building on strengths, which can often reduce the number of problems. I especially loved this paragraph, “God is good. Something worth holding on to.” Thank you for reminding us that we’re here to be His light. Blessings to you!
