Making It Cute, Making It Count

At the beginning of the year I wrote a blog called Facing It Cute. There were some really tough things I needed to deal with, and it was draining me. They weren’t light things. But I thought — what if I made a date out of it instead? Dress up, go out to dinner, self reservation, make it cute. Really sit down and work on the things I needed to work on.

And here we are toward the end of July.

I guess I could put that in the category of an act of faith — to really face the challenges, but face them cute. I’ve made progress in that area. I’m very confident that the challenges I was facing at the beginning of the year, the ones I’ve made significant progress in, will be completely resolved within the coming months. And that is beautiful. That is beautiful and good.

To pause and reflect on the progress that’s been made. To really take that moment, and take that strategy, and apply it in other areas. To keep moving forward in other areas.

Which brings me to something else.

One of the things for me as a writer, as a creator, as a business person — one of the challenges I’ve had is the selling side. Selling product, selling books, selling ideas. That side of the business has always been challenging for me. A lot of times throughout my process, I’ve spent all this time creating something and doing it myself. Designing, creating, writing, editing, putting it out there, self-publishing. Doing all that work. And then when it comes to the marketing side, there’s no marketing plan. I don’t even know how to do a marketing plan. And then just feeling some kind of way about posting — it’s very uncomfortable, I might say.

Recently I’ve been working on an ebook. I finally finished it on Saturday before midnight. I put it on a platform I haven’t used before. I posted a little bit about it on Threads with the link in the comments, yada yada yada. And then that’s pretty much it — that’s all I’ve done about it. I was going to post it on Facebook but that’s just worse. The cringe. And then after that, I don’t know where else to put it.

That’s just a transparent look at the process.

I’ll post the link here if anyone’s interested in it. I think it’s pretty good. I really like writing these kinds of ebooks — similar to the one I wrote last year. Last year I didn’t even put a price on it, I just made it free. Because the idea is to find people at a stage of their lives where it might prevent them from making the same mistakes I’ve made. I really write these to help others. If you can avoid something — just learn and avoid the mistakes I’ve made — I count that as a win. So I really put this out there to help others.

However, it would be beautiful to reach a point where I’m generating income from the writing and the different things I create, the different things I do. It would be great to do that. Those are some of the goals I’m looking to set — especially moving forward with managing this.

You’ve seen this before. There was that phase where I designed the busted T-shirts but didn’t sell any, because they were my shirts. But again, I never know if people are actually interested in the things I create.

So I don’t know. But I guess there’s only one way to find out — which is to put things out there.

And so this is me, at least, putting the ebook out there.

Tell me if you like it.

Thanks.
